After twelve years, the Edgewood Show Choir has a new director, Kayla Kinder.
Ms. Kinder, the former assistant director of the EHS Choraliers, is a 2015 Edgewood graduate and was a Choralier for three of those years.
“I was an elementary teacher and Mrs. Wolf wanted to step down so I wanted to take the position so it was run by someone who knew the program,” Ms. Kinder said. ”I have big shoes to fill, she was an amazing director, mentor, and friend. She is an amazing music educator who built this group into what it is now. I would never be in this position without her.”
The new position comes with many new goals for the upcoming year, senior Maggie Stamper is a leader this year and wants the group to maintain its high standards.
“As a dance captain, my goal for the upcoming season is to help every member of the group feel fully confident in their ability to dance each number to its full potential,” Stamper said.
Junior Mattie Eggebrecht has more specific goals for the group.
“I’d like us to make finals every competition and get closer as a group,” Eggebrecht said.
Senior Cooper Chasteen wants to continue with the Choralier traditions.
“We need to do the same thing we have been doing, hard work and dedication,” Chasteen said.
“It takes a lot of hard work and discipline to get there but I think this group is fully capable,” Maggie adds.
Ms Kinder has a different goal for this year’s group.
“My main goal is for the students to be happy and proud of their show, I don’t care if we win or don’t win, I am competitive but I want them to be happy,” Kinder said.
Every year, the Choraliers aim to be grand champions, and in the past few years, they have accomplished that goal.
“It was like a fever dream, almost like it didn’t even happen.” Says Cooper.
“Being grand champs is the best feeling ever,” Maggie said. “We put in so much work throughout the year, and feeling like we have done it to the best of our abilities and being recognized for it is truly a huge accomplishment.”
“It’s very rewarding because of all of the hard work we put in all year,” Mattie said.
