Thirteen Edgewood students signed to play their sport at the collegiate level on Wednesday, April 17th.
Jonah Combs, a three-year varsity boys volleyball starter, signed a letter of intent to continue his education and athletic career at Central State University.
“I feel very blessed to get the opportunity to play the sport I love at the next level. I’m sure a bunch of people would love to have the opportunity that I’ve been given. I’m just grateful I’m getting the chance to improve my education and play the sport I love. I chose this college over other schools because they play high-level competition and it’s pretty close to home,” Combs said.
Jonah found inspiration from a teammate that will continue at CSU.
“The person that’s inspired me the most is definitely my teammate Hayden Honchul, Seeing what Hayden has been able to do in his amount of time playing, inspired me to work harder and improve my game,” said Combs. Honchul signed to play at CSU earlier this fall.
Family, coaches, and teammates gathered in the gym to celebrate these student-athletes and their commitments. Athletic Director Scott Clemmons led the ceremony.
“It’s great that we can highlight these athletes and their accomplishments on a day like this,” said Clemmons.
Zack Moore has also played varsity volleyball for three consecutive years. He is signed to The University of Rio Grande.
“It feels great going to play at a higher level, I’m very humbled and will miss my time in high school,” said Moore.
Moore found inspiration in the gym and at home.
“I’d say my dad has pushed me the most to accomplish this goal, he was always pushing me to strive for more, he is the one that taught me the game I love most,” said Moore.
