The annual homecoming game was played this past Friday night at EHS. The Cougars took on the Northwest Knights in a Southwest Ohio Conference (SWOC) contest. The game ended in the Cougars’ favor, 48-12.

There was a large crowd at Kumler Field for the homecoming game and all of the fun pregame festivities before kickoff. “I love seeing the support of the community for things like this,” says Coach Scott Clemmons. “This was one of the most exciting games I have experienced sitting in the student section,” adds EHS senior and den leader, Rylan Brown. This game was nothing but fun for the Edgewood Cougars!

Not only did the team win, but they won against a league opponent which has now moved them into first place in SWOC with a record of 6-1. The Cougars’ offense scored 7 touchdowns during the night. The defense held the Knights to 12 points. “Tonight’s game was very impressive but I knew that we could have played this way all along” commented Rylan Brown. The fans and players were all tuned in for this game, and the post-game firework show.

While this year’s festivities were fun, Coach Clemmons remembers even more Homecoming activities from his days at EHS. “Homecoming was much bigger on activities outside of school, not just the game on Friday”, he remembers.  “There were things like the senior captains speaking at the bonfire on Thursday, another one is the powder puff games (that) were played during homecoming week,” said Coach Clemmons.

On the other hand, some thigs are traditional.  “Previous graduates coming back, float building, and seeing old friends and teammates during Friday night’s game,” said Clemmons.  Now that spirit week is complete, the team returns its focus to a SWOC championship.

The Cougars will take on another league opponent, the Talawanda Brave, this Friday, October 7th, at Talawanda High School. Come out and support! Go Cougs!
