Four seniors will wrap up their high school lacrosse careers this spring. For Vincent Perry, a team captain and 2025 EHS prom king, this season will cap his sixth season of the fast-growing sport.
Vinny joined lacrosse in middle school.
“I tried it out in 7th grade because my two friends played it, and it turned into my favorite sport, which I’ve played since,” Perry states.
Ever since, it has become one of his favorites in sports.
“Lacrosse is my favorite sport, I love it and it means a lot to me,” Perry says, “I’ve spent years playing it and I love spending time with my friends while I play.”
Perry appreciates the history of the sport and the excitement of the game.
“In my own words, lacrosse is a very special sport that dates back to native americans,” Perry said. “It’s the fastest sport on 2 feet, and it is so enjoyable to play or even watch, there are so many things that could happen. It is a sport that is physically and mentally demanding. ”
Lacrosse also involves cooperation and a positive mindset in order to be successful.
“Teamwork and grit, if you don’t play like you need to win, then it’s easy to lose a lacrosse game,” Perry said.
This mindset allows the team to achieve victory even when it seems they may lose.
“Earlier this season, we played Waynesville’s lacrosse team, and we were down by 3 goals at halftime,” Perry said. “We came back and won in the fourth quarter with 40 seconds left in the game.”
This teamwork also allows friendships to be made within the team. Perry expresses his gratitude for them.
“They are fun and interesting to be around. But we spend a ton of time together each week, so we are all pretty good friends.”
Above all else, Perry wants the sport to continue to grow and inspire others as well.
“ Please try it, it’s so fun and such a great sport.”
