After moving from the UK, an early retirement opened an opportunity for a new EHS science teacher Chloe Hitch. As a science teacher from the UK, she stepped up to the role of the newest biology teacher for the school.
Ms. Hitch had just moved from England when she saw the advertisement online for a long-term substitute teacher for Edgewood. She applied and, within the hour, was called for an interview
“I saw the advertisement on the internet and applied. It was around 1, and they called me at about 1:30,” Hitch said.
Ms. Hitch oversees CCP Anatomy and Physiology and teaches honors and core biology. She says that she likes her job, and already knows she’s staying for next year.
“This year has sort of been like one big interview, but I already have the job for next year,” Hitch said.
Hitch is qualified for the job as she has 3 degrees, one in microbiology with medical biosciences, a teaching degree, and a master’s in bioinformatics.
She came as a big help to students, who were left wondering after the second-quarter who would be teaching them come the second semester since Mr. Johnson was leaving. For her, she sees her quick hiring as a good thing. She’s happy to be helping these kids.
“It seemed like a lot of students either really liked him or didn’t, but he seemed like a good teacher. I felt like I had large shoes to fill, ” Hitch said.
Hitch likes teaching her students. Timmy Melvin, a sophomore in her general biology class, had this to say about her
“She’s cool, the kids sometimes don’t like her since she can actually argue with them effectively,” Melvin said.
Ms. Hitch is a new teacher who came at a time when kids weren’t sure who their teacher was going to be. She is sure to be a good addition to the staff.
