The EHS girls basketball season is officially underway with a record of 1-3. Despite the slow start, head coach John Cecere wants to use his thirty years of basketball experience to strengthen the program. Cecere had some goals prior to the season.
“It’s just about getting the girls to work hard every day which they are, and get them to understand how good they are, in terms of wins and losses,” Cecere said. “Every day in practice we have practice goals and getting them to accomplish those goals to show them their progress.”
Each player has their own goals as well. Junior guard Maddie Jones and junior forward Ella Allen both want team success and all-league recognition.
“My biggest personal goal this year is to make the all-SWBL team, and as a team, I would like to have a winning record,” Jones said. “ I’m very excited for this season.”
“I would like to just be the best that I can be whether that be personally or as a leader and a teammate,” Allen said.
The girls hope to rely on their bonds to bolster team success.
“Team chemistry is one of our biggest strengths, we’ve all been around each other most of our lives and played together for a long time,” Jones said.
Ella agrees and is looking forward to improving that chemistry.
“Playing together and getting better while also having fun at the same time is the best part about being on the team,” Ella said.
While this is Maddie’s first year on varsity, she is learning the expectations of Coach Cecere.
“Coach Cecere expects a lot out of us, which encourages us to push ourselves and give it all we got,” says Jones.
The next game for the girls will be at Seton on Saturday 12/14 at 12:30.
