Students want to get their parking pass so they have more freedom and don’t have to ride the bus, however, they have to do certain things to meet the criteria of getting a parking pass.
There are many steps to getting a parking pass. The office secretary, Kristy Clemmons, is the one responsible for issuing the parking spots and providing passes.
“Oh my lord, so, initially Final Forms is where all the information is, so we check that insurance card, driver’s license uploaded, car information, so all that’s checked to make sure it’s not expired, then I have to check school fees, and then they have to pay, and once all of that is completed, then I assign a parking spot. Normally, whoever does it earlier gets the first spots,” Mrs. Clemmons said.
Now, along with getting a parking pass, Mrs. Clemmons touched on the very few things that can cause a student’s application to be denied.
“So, ineligible, is school fees, and not having a driver’s license yet, sometimes discipline, but not very often,” Mrs. Clemmons said.
The passes have changed quite a bit from last year’s passes. Last year, the passes were better quality than this year.
“OMG, The parking hangers…stupid. They are AWFUL, we tried to save money..and we got what we paid for.”
First-year SRO, Scott Robinson, deals with the parking lot on a daily basis. “I help on the parking lot detail, I assist administration, help talk to the kids and point them in the right direction, and just be there for overall school safety. I’ve had a wonderful time, it’s been great, staff, students, have been really friendly towards me,” Robinson said.
Transitioning into the actual safety of the parking lot, Mr. Robinson has not encountered any problems as of now. “Not at this time, not unless problems arise that need to be handled, but as of right now it seems to be going okay. Other than just students parking in spots they’re not assigned to,” Robinson said.
Students see the parking lot differently than the SRO does. Peyton Blevins, a senior, claims there is more danger and reckless driving that the SRO may not notice.
“The parking lot scares me, whenever it’s 2:20 I’m outta there. Expect my Kia to be gone. People think it’s cool to skert off, with their friends and make screeching noises with their tires, and um people go really fast and aren’t careful of other people walking or people in general,” Peyton said.
Students have witnessed even more chaotic events. “Um, a bus pulled up and ran into the light post, the poor kids on that bus,” Peyton said. Another senior, Audra Navey, does not necessarily fear the parking lot.
“Dangerous? I don’t really see anything dangerous. I haven’t seen a crash, but I know Mrs Limon got hit in the parking lot, but I wasn’t there to see it.” said Audra.
