The EHS boys lacrosse team is entering a new era. Coach Robert Ballantyne is entering his fifteenth coaching season but first season as the varsity head coach of the team. Coach Ballantyne has a very prestigious way of coaching his players
“My coaching style focuses on fundamentals, at all levels, with special attention to movement, communication, and leadership. I never focused on winning at the youth level,” Ballantyne said.
Senior midfielder Connor Ballantyne is looking forward to having his dad as the new head coach
“It feels good to have him, and it also feels good to have a part say in how we run things and what we do in practice and game plans,” the younger Ballantyne said.
Coach Ballantyne has big expectations for this year’s team and wants to continue traditions at EHS.
“I have high expectations for this season. We returned several veteran starters and have young, talented players in key positions. We should contend for a conference title and continue the tradition of winning in the state playoffs,” Coach Ballantyne said.
Senior midfielder Mason McQueen believes that communication is key.
“I think by running successful plays, communication, and getting everyone to cheer each other on can push us further in the postseason,” McQueen said.
Coach Ballantyne says he lives for coaching and teaching kids to push through anything
“Anytime I see a player’s eyes light up because they figured out a new skill. That’s what I live for. They don’t think they can do something, but after hard work and repetition they overcome their doubts and in that moment can conquer anything,” Ballantyne said.
Coach Ballantyne hopes that by the end of his season, he will push his players to be the best they can be and build the team together
“I hope that I demonstrated good leadership by bringing together a knowledgeable, motivated coaching staff dedicated to pushing each player to their maximum potential on and off the field,” R Ballantyne said.
The boy’s lacrosse team opens their season at home against Miamisburg on Friday, March 15th.
