A tradition at Edgewood High School occurs every Friday: music is played in the halls after each class, except for 7th period. The den leaders pick the music, and from there the songs are approved by the administration and played through the speakers.
Two of the Den leaders Kenzie Beeman and Connor Ballantyne often choose songs that they like to listen to in the hallway.
“I usually just … try to find songs that everybody already knows so like 2014 or 2010 sometimes we do like Taylor Swift Day… Now (it’s) not really like that, it just we do whatever we want” said Beeman.
Ballantyne often chooses pop when it’s his turn to pick the songs.
“I usually like to play pop music because that’s what most people like (and) what most people listen to,” said Ballantyne.
They often have to pick appropriate songs to send into the office as the school controls what gets played.
“We have to like send them in for approval, so we usually have to have a whole lot of options because they get flagged,” said Beeman.
They take turns going to the office with the songs.
“Usually it’s … I’ll do 2nd [and] 3rd because those are the only periods that I’m here and then Gage will do 4th and 5th, and then Mason will do 6th, and then we usually don’t do 7th,” said Beeman.
