The Edgewood academic team shines brightly, embodying intellect and unity despite a tough record of 3-13 this season.
Students don’t know much about the Academic team. Junior, Lucas Simpson, a returning team member, wants students to understand the sport.
“Each team is asked a question which they will quickly talk amongst themselves then answer,” Simpson said.
If correct, they will earn a point; if they answer incorrectly, the opposing team will have the opportunity to steal the question by providing a correct answer.
Coach Jeremy Williams has been a part of the program for five seasons. He is experiencing new challenges with the team’s move to the SWBL.
“It’s a new league, I don’t know any of these teams so that’s been kind of interesting this year,” Mr.Williams said.
Despite the SWBL not having an academic team as an official sport. The team thrives to be together. Senior, Ty Finkbine encourages students to try out next year.
“Yeah it’s a good community, community of nerds,” Finkbine said.
A big plus is that they didn’t have to pay the $500 pay-to-play fee this year.
“Maybe next year, but we didn’t this year,” said Ty.
With the team’s comradery, Lucas Simpson has a favorite moment from this season, the rap battle between Sophie Blair and Richard Moore.
“Against your own wishes, I will call you big and greedy. When you see a Big Mac you run Gonzalez like speedy.” Simpson said.
