New head football coach for Edgewood is hired after 12 years with Scott Clemmons.
Coach Trace Reynolds is fired up to be back at his alma mater.
“This program means everything to me, you know I was a player in it,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds was the starting quarterback in the 2013 and 2014 seasons. He was All-Conference and All-region during his 2014 season.
“I’m gonna take what I learned in my 5 years of college coaching and try to adapt it to the high school level,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds was a graduate coaching assistant for the running backs and tight ends at Heidelberg from 2019-2021. After the 2021 season, he left Heidelberg to become the coach for tight ends and fullbacks at the University of Findlay in 2022. Then finally returning to Heidelberg to become the quarterbacks coach for the 2023 season. Coach Reynolds wants to build a foundation with his players.
“I want the players to reach their full potential,” Reynolds said
Junior quarterback Ryan French is pumped to have a new coach who is motivated and ready to win.
“I’m excited to have a new coach and be introduced to his different coaching style,” French said.
French has been playing on the varsity football team for two years, He was first on the kickoff team and was the varsity quarterback backup. He then became the starting quarterback in his junior year. He is prepared to lead the Cougar offense one last time this year.
This is Reynolds’ first time being a head coach. He will take over for Scott Clemmons who stepped down to become the school’s Athletic Director. Clemmons coached for 12 seasons and had a 74-55 overall record.
Reynolds is ecstatic to be able to teach these kids to become the best players they can be and reach their full potential
“Coaching, in general, motivates me, I have a passion for helping young adults,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds will put his coaching skills to the test when the Cougars face off against the Milford Eagles in their 2024 season opener on August 23rd.
