Friday, December 1st marks the start of the 2023-2024 Edgewood Boys Basketball season. The boys are coming off a 5-16 season with high hopes and a new attitude.
Coach Jason Osterman made his varsity coaching debut during the 2021 season, and already has one league title.
“We hope to improve from last year’s record. We feel like we have had a productive offseason and have improved our basketball skills and come closer together as a team. Anything close to last year’s season would definitely be a disappointment,” said Osterman.
Practices lately have been full of intensity, building stamina and mental strength.
“Practices have been rough, we were a little banged up and had some guys sick over break but [I] feel like we are in a better spot now. Our goal is to play fast and up-tempo so we have been doing a lot of full-court, high-intensity drills,” said Osterman.
Sophomore Tyson Daley has played basketball since he can remember and also has high hopes for this season, even though he is a younger guy. This year Daley has recognized an increase in intensity during practices.
“ Run, run, run along with the installation of new plays is all that practice has consisted of,” said Daley.
The team has been working hard preparing for the season, and attitudes are better than ever.
“It’s great with the senior leadership we have, Brayden; Eddie, Jon, Jaylen, Connor, and Mason are all great mentors with experience,” said Daley.
This year’s roster is filled with seniors, which is great for leadership and all-around chemistry. Senior, Eddie Thompson has also been playing basketball since his grade school days and looks forward to leading his team along with the other seniors.
“Having senior leadership that I could look up to earlier in my high school career shaped me to be the player I am today, I hope to pass that along to the younger players that are now below me,” said Thompson.
Eddie hopes to do nothing but better compared to last season.
“My goal for this season is definitely to improve from last year’s record, as well as take a good shot at winning the conference title” Said Thompson.
All of Edgewood Athletics made the switch over to the Southwestern Buckeye League Conference this year, giving a greater amount of teams to face and possibly better competition.
“We are excited to be joining the SWBL and to re-visit some old rivalries that once existed in the MML years ago. The SWBL is always a competitive league and we look forward to being a part of that,” said Osterman.
“Our goal for this season is to win a league championship and advance in the postseason tournament,” said Osterman.
