Float building, a tradition at EHS since the 1970s, is in full swing as Homecoming festivities quickly approach. The theme for Homecoming this year is ‘Board Games’.
Each grade is given the opportunity to pick a board game and decorate a trailer according to the game they picked.
The final choices on the theme “Board Games” this year are:
Seniors-Candyland
Juniors-The Game of Life
Sophomores-Monopoly
Freshman-Chutes and Ladders
Senior class president Maggie Henderson got to pick the theme this year with help from other student council members. “Board Games have not been a theme for the past few years. I thought it would be fun to bring it back. It also gave us a wide variety of options to choose from,” Henderson said.
“I tried to stay away from movies, decades, and Disney because they have been popular themes in the past,” Henderson said
The class presidents from each grade are responsible for finding a trailer and a place to build. There is a class fund that is then used to buy materials to decorate the trailer. Almost everyone uses cardboard, wood, paint, pomps, and plastic to build/decorate with. “Whether you’re on student council or not, everyone is welcome to attend float building,” stated Henderson.
Junior class vice president Lilly Fryman was excited to take a new role in the student council this year. “Most of the junior class agreed on ‘The Game of Life’. We all worked together and we all were doing something to contribute,” Fryman said.
Float building for the class of 2025 is being held at her house. “It’s fun having float building at my house and watching our grade collaborate ideas and come closer together,”. Fryman said
Junior Kamdyn Buck agrees with Fryman. Kamdyn has been a big help in contributing to the class of 2025’s float. “ It’s a good opportunity to get involved with my peers and allows us to be creative in our own ways,” Buck said.
Due to getting a new track, the floats will not be driven through the stadium prior to the game. Instead, they will be placed in the parking lot. However, per tradition, the floats will be a part of the parade on Thursday, October 5.
Float building is a awesome tradition to have at Edgewood. It is a great way to bring everyone together and show school spirit. Hopefully float building sticks around for many years to come.
