EHS girls golf finished the regular season with a 6-41 record. However, that didn’t stop the team from having a blast. Junior Riley Tice is very proud of the way her team connected through hard times this season.
“We had lost our senior Kenzie Tice last year who was my sister and shot the same score as me and I thought this season wouldn’t be as successful as last year but these girls proved me wrong,” Tice said.
This is the first year of the Cougars being in the SWBL after being in the SWOC for 11 years. Last year the team finished 2nd in the SWOC losing the title to Harrison. However, the SWBL was a more competitive conference for the Cougars. Coach Pressler is excited for the move to the SWBL.
“The SWBL was a good move for girls golf. In the SWBL each school hosts a match that includes all schools playing against each other at once. When Carlisle hosted at Jamaica Run GC Edgewood took 3rd place with a score of 222. We finished behind Bellbrook and only 10 strokes behind Oakwood. We defeated Eaton, Waynesville, Carlisle, and Valley View,” Coach Pressler said.
“Our girls get to feel what it’s like to go against really good teams and competitive players,” Tice said.
Riley led the team this year with a 53 average, ranking 13th in the SWBL. Her best game this year was against Harrison where she shot a 40. Riley has been swinging the clubs from a young age.
“I started playing golf when I was 7 years old. My dad got me into classes at a young age and this was a key factor to where I am now. Since freshman year I would play #1 and #2 Ranks and this year I have been top of the team all year,” Tice said
“I loved getting to know every player on our team and getting to watch their progress through the season and get to see the happy looks on their faces when we won a match or when they scored well. I loved the girls on our team and I can’t wait for next season,” Tice said.
Coach Pressler echoes the comments of Riley.
“We got very close as a group. We had a great time. We were always striving to get better and compete.”
Pay to play fee of $500 dollars was hard on the program this year. The team started with 11 players and then ended the season with five players.
However, Coach Pressler says, “This will not be a factor in the future. We have set up fundraisers to help those athletes and parents to cover the cost of pay to play.”
Coach Pressler going forward has high expectations for his program going forward.
“I need a JV team first. Pay to play hurt me this year [but that] will not be a factor in future. After establishing a JV team, I want to create a club team for our 6th, 7th, 8th grade and get them involved in junior leagues at Brown’s Run Golf Course, our home course,” Coach Pressler said.
